About Florida Park
Florida Park is a historic party venue inside Madrid’s Retiro Park, next to Paseo de la República de Panamá. At night it becomes Florida Motel & Casino, a party set in the American motels and underground casinos of the 1980s, with DJs, live shows and, every now and then, a surprise artist who takes to the stage.
The venue opens on Friday and Saturday nights from 00:00 to 06:00. In the main room the music is pop, reggaeton and electronic, and under La Cúpula techno rules until dawn. The minimum age is usually 18 and the dress code is casual.
The complex has more plans before the party: La Galería, a glass-fronted tapas bar open onto the park with DJ sessions from Wednesday to Sunday; El Pabellón, its restaurant; La Terraza, at the top of the building; and Los Kioskos, street food stalls with live flamenco-pop. The agenda below shows the La Galería and Pabellón Nights evenings, and you can buy tickets without leaving the site.
The building was born in the early 19th century as the Casa del Contrabandista, one of the follies the architect Isidro González Velázquez designed for Ferdinand VII’s private garden in the Retiro. It was later a chapel, a hunting gallery and a spa, and in 1935 it opened as the Viena Park tea room, a meeting point for Madrid high society.
In the 1950s it became the Florida party venue, and in 1964 it officially opened as Florida Park, one of the great stages of Madrid nightlife: artists such as Tina Turner and Ray Charles performed there, and in the 1970s it was the set of “Esta noche, fiesta”, José María Íñigo’s TV show. After a complete refurbishment, with interior design by Pascua Ortega and architecture by Guillermo García-Hoz, it keeps the façade of the Casa del Contrabandista and its dome.
The venue also hosts well-known city events such as Pompa Tardeo, Teatreo, La Cucaracha or Bingo para Señoras. To get there, the nearest entrance to the Retiro is the Puerta de la Reina Mercedes, on Avenida de Menéndez Pelayo at the corner of Calle Ibiza. The party has its own Instagram, @floridamotelcasino.
