About Teatro Barceló

Teatro Barceló is one of the most distinctive buildings in Madrid’s nightlife, next to the Barceló market. The architect Luis Gutiérrez Soto built it in 1930 as a cinema, with a dance hall and a summer cinema, and it’s a gem of rationalist architecture that the Community of Madrid has listed as a Site of Cultural Interest. It was a cinema until 1974 and a theatre until 1979, and in 1980 it opened as Pachá, one of Madrid’s most famous nightclubs, visited by Andy Warhol, Prince and the Rolling Stones. In 2013 it was renamed Teatro Barceló.

It’s currently closed: a court upheld the closure ordered by the City Council for exceeding its permitted capacity of 990 people, and the 2,589-square-metre building is up for sale. If it reopens, you’ll see its agenda here.
