Salón de Té Al Yabal is one of Madrid’s longest-running tea houses: according to its website it has been open since 1980, on Calle de Cáceres in Arganzuela, a short walk from Delicias metro station. Its décor, with warm lamps, comfortable armchairs and geometric lacework tiles, recalls the Alhambra and the tales of the Thousand and One Nights, and it is the reason so many people pick it for a quiet afternoon. It has one of the longest tea menus in the city, with black, red, green and white teas and rooibos in house blends (the Oasis Al-Yabal, the Sultan’s Personal Reserve or the Dreams of the Alhambra), plus more than 50 cocktails, milkshakes, juices, homemade cakes and baklava. Its shishas use nicotine-free flavours, in regular or XL size, and can be ordered with rum or whisky in the base; they are always served with a drink and never to under-18s. It has more than 2,300 reviews across Google and Tripadvisor, and booking is a good idea, especially at weekends.
