Originally opened in 1886, the Gran Hotel Inglés proudly holds the title of the oldest hotel in Madrid still in use as a hotel. Located on Calle de Echegaray, in the cultural heart of the Barrio de las Letras, it was the first hotel in the capital to have its own restaurant and electric light in every room, becoming the favourite meeting place of the literary intelligentsia, famous bullfighters, musicians and the bourgeoisie of the late 19th century.
