About O'Pazo

O’Pazo is one of Madrid’s great seafood restaurants, on Calle de la Reina Mercedes, between Cuatro Caminos and the Bernabéu. It opened in 1969 and soon became a benchmark of Madrid dining: it was among the few restaurants with a star in the first edition of the Michelin Guide for Spain. In 1981 Evaristo García, owner of Pescaderías Coruñesas, took over with a clear aim: to make O’Pazo a temple of fish and shellfish, with the best produce from Spain’s coasts and simple cooking that brings out its flavour. It is the sister house of El Pescador, Desde 1911, Filandón and Lhardy. The menu offers shellfish by weight, from Galician spider crab to Huelva carabinero prawn, Denia red prawn or Galician goose barnacles; starters such as lobster salpicón, carabinero croquettes or a trilogy of hake cheeks; Málaga-style fried fish “as the great Félix Cabeza taught us”; and fish cooked to your liking, grilled, baked, Bilbao-style or battered, such as the famous Evaristo sole. Renovated in 2008, it has valet parking.
