About Gofio

Gofio is the great house of Canary Islands cooking in Madrid, on Calle del Caballero de Gracia, a step from the Gran Vía, with one Michelin star and two Repsol Suns. It was opened in 2015 by chef Safe Cruz, from a farming family in El Tablero, Tenerife, trained in pure Canarian cooking “the kind there was and the kind there hardly is any more”, and his partner Aida González. Its motto is “maximum Canarian-ness”: showcasing the islands’ larder, with better- and lesser-known produce, spiced preparations and intense flavours, a cuisine born from humble roots and isolation that keeps the sustainability of the land and its producers firmly in mind. The cellar holds only Canary Islands wines, pure, natural and minimal-intervention, from native grapes and small producers, rounded off with champagnes and kindred wines such as Madeira, Sherry or Sicily. Meals are tasting menus, one short and two longer.

Opening hours
Wednesday to Sunday, 1 pm to 4 pm and 8 pm to 11 pm. Monday and Tuesday, closed.

Getting there
Metro: Gran Vía (L1, L5), Sevilla (L2) and Sol (L1, L2, L3). No valet parking; nearby car parks: Centro Canalejas, Plaza de Pedro Zerolo and Gran Vía, 14. Wheelchair accessible.
